Great Dane Coir Doormat with black Great Dane silhouette on natural coir

The Great Dane Doormat: A Warm Welcome from a Gentle Giant

Angus greets every arrival with the unmistakable presence of a Great Dane and the warm curiosity of a dog who considers visitors part of the day’s entertainment.

Which means that whatever a doormat is supposed to communicate, it's already too late by the time anyone's actually stood on it. There's a very large dog visible through the glass first.

We made a doormat anyway. The Great Dane Doormat is a plain black silhouette on natural coir, with no slogan and no exclamation mark, because it doesn't need one. Anyone who's owned a Great Dane recognises the shape immediately. Anyone who hasn't is about to learn a lot, very quickly, once the door opens.

It's made with the actual size of the dog in mind — durable coir, a non-slip PVC backing, made to order, and more surface area than most doormats ever have to think about. If you've ever tried to keep a Dane's paws, or the rest of the Dane, out of the house on a wet day, that last part won't come as a surprise.

For Everyone Else's Dog

Not every home is run by a Great Dane, so the same design exists for German Shepherds, Saint Bernards, Golden Retrievers, Labradors and a handful of others, all in the Doormats collection. Same shape, same idea — a different dog getting to the door first.

What Happens After the Door Opens

A doormat this size tends to make the rest of the hallway look a bit underprepared by comparison — leads with nowhere to hang, mud with nowhere to go, the general debris that collects near a door when a large dog lives behind it. The Entryway collection was built for exactly that: hooks, boot benches, somewhere for all of it to actually go.

Great Danes aren't really guard dogs, whatever the silhouette suggests. Angus is about as gentle as they come — all presence, a wonderfully gentle nature. His size brings all the presence on its own. What actually happens once you're through the door is a nose in your hand and a very direct request to be let up on the sofa.

So treat the mat as a cheerful introduction to the household. It's honest, at least — there is, in fact, an enormous dog on the other side of that door. What she plans to do about it is entirely up to her, and so far it's never once been anything worse than delighted.
